It is pointless to deny the fact that painting
is the skeleton of art. It is the supporting structure, the
framework that carries the visual code. It can fall silent or
conceal itself for long periods of time, at times set aside by
fashion or by seemingly winning forms (photographs, video,
etc.). Then it re-emerges and, almost to fill a void that it
had left behind, finds in the heart of all the place that it
always reclaims in no uncertain terms. A skeleton in the
cupboard that is cumbersome and at times inconvenient can jump
out unexpectedly and stun the onlooker. The artists chosen for
the exhibition entitled on painting at the Estro
Gallery can also seem uncomfortable for that sense of ‘not
having absolutely anything in common’ (if not for the large
dimensions of the works exhibited) that eludes persistent
research into the content and subjects of their work. But this
‘uncomfortable ness’ takes us precisely to the point of the
matter, to the polysemic peculiarity of the pictorial ‘medium’
that operates on the margins of representation.
Manuel
Baldini was born in 1973 in Vicenza where he now lives and
works.
Roberto Coda was born in Biella in 1975 and lives
and works in Biella and Berlin.
Jesus Fernandez Rodriguez
was born in 1973 in Granada where he now lives and
works.
Sophie Franza was born in 1970 in Grenoble and lives
and works in Venice.
Eugenio Percossi was born in Avezzano
(Aq) in 1974 and lives and works in Rome and
Prague.
Manuela Sonzogno was born in 1966 in Milan where
she now lives and works.
