Website Builder Features
Site Manager
What is the Free Web Town Page Builder?
The "Page Builder" is a very easy to use web page creator and editor that is integrated into the community environment. Although you can use any editor you wish to create your web pages, you are only a few clicks away from creating pages using this tool that are seamlessly integrated into your web browser.

Simply choose from over two dozen professionally-designed templates and start creating your web site with only your web browser. You can build your site with an unlimited number of pages and 1 GB of FREE storage. Each new page is automatically linked to your "home page" and all additional files can be managed within the Free Web Town Site Manager. Within minutes you'll be showing off your new web site to the world!

Will the title show up on all of my pages or does each page get a new title?
Each page gets a new title. These titles will appear as links on each page created. Remember, the first page of your site is the index page. The title you give your index page will NOT appear in the URL. All titles given to additional pages WILL appear in the URL.

When I choose a template do I have to use that particular one for the rest of my pages?
No. You may choose to use a different template for each new page if you wish.

Can I rearrange the order of my pages?
Yes. Go to Free Web Town Site Manager and select the page you would like to move and click on the corresponding button (Up or Down) in the "Change Order" column.

File Manager
What is the File Manager?
The File Manager is a powerful web-based interface tool that allows the adding, editing and removal of all of your web site's files.

How can I delete a page I have created?
Using the "File Manager", select the file (or files) to be deleted by clicking the checkbox next to it and click the "Delete" button. All files that were checked will be immediately deleted from the server.

How do I upload files?
File uploading via your web browser has been made very simple and easy to manage. We have created a special uploading area that allows you to select and upload up to a maximum of 8 files simultaneously into your web site storage area.
  1. Click the "Upload Files" button to go to the upload area.
  2. Click the "Browse..." button on any of the 8 fields available to select the file you wish to upload from your local computer.
  3. Select the appropriate file and then click "Open" to prepare the file for uploading. (You may repeat this up to 8 times).
  4. When you have chosen the file(s) you wish to upload, click the "Upload Files" button at the bottom of the interface.
  5. You will be returned to the "File Manager" menu screen with a table listing of your files, including your newly uploaded files.
How do I view or preview a file from my file manager listing?
Simply click on the link provided for each file in the list and your web browser will attempt to view or play the file instantly.

Does FTP work on FreeWebTown.com Community? or Can I use FTP instead of the FileManager interface?
Yes, FTP is available for users of FreeWebTown.com Community. We provide our "FileManager" interface in order to better manage the overall file transfer process on our customized system. Some users prefer FTP and we strive to answer the requests of our users when possible. Instructions on how to access your website via FTP:
  1. Download one of the many free or shareware FTP software clients available online. Search for "FTP software". (Note, you may also use "Internet Explorer" as a FTP interface. See specific instructions below this section.)
  2. Specify "www.freewebtown.com" as the "remote server" or "FTP servername".
  3. Enter your regular FreeWebTown "username" and "password" that you created when you signed up for your account.
  4. Move or transfer your files using your software client. Reference your FTP software's "help" documentation if you have any problems here.
  5. Make sure you log-off or exit your FTP session.
Note: if you are behind a firewall and your FTP software connects but does not show any files in your remote directory, turn on "Passive Mode" in your software's configuration menu. On some software clients, this is in the "advanced" options menu that is usually provided. Special request regarding the use of FTP vs. FreeWebTown's FileManager: Please note that we currently do not receive any advertising impressions when website owners use FTP to transfer their files. Using the "FileManager" interface provides FreeWebTown with advertising impressions that helps keep us in business and paying our expenses. Please consider that we are providing you with a free hosting resource and ask that you help support us by using our interface (and visiting our website) as often as possible. Also, please don't forget to tell others about us and our free services! Quick and Easy FTP using Internet Explorer:
  1. Open Internet Explorer and type the following into the "address" field: ftp://www.freewebtown.com
  2. The software will prompt you for a "username" and "password".
  3. If you log-in successfully, your Web browser will change its appearance to a "Windows Explorer" type of interface, showing your files remotely hosted on our web server.
  4. You can drag and drop or cut and paste files as you would normally using a local file resource.
Important Note! - keep in mind that our web server filesystem is Unix-based, which means that filenames in Windows do NOT directly correspond to the way files are handled in Unix. Use lower-case filenames and directory names when creating new content. Avoid "spaces" because Unix will insert a special character to replace the space when your file is accessed via the website. Store
What is the "Free Web Town" Store?
" Free Web Town " Store is similar to a "brick and mortar" online consignment storefront, the only difference is that this one is online and accessible to the world from any Internet connection.

Can I add my own product to the Store?
Yes, of course! You can use the store anytime free of charge to sell your items online.

Simply click the "Add/Modify/Delete Your Products" link on the Store page and follow the instructions. Choose an appropriate category for your item, specify a Product Name or SKU number, set the price, upload images (regular size and thumbnail size) and create a brief description. Specify your shipping cost or preferences and select which forms of payment you will accept.

Buyers can select your product from among the others in our community and if they choose to buy, they virtually "check out" and their contact information is sent to you in order to arrange the actual sale and shipping of the item.

Why can I select "Payment Options" but can't accept credit card numbers online to automate my transactions?
The reason for this is due to the security concerns inherent of a community storefront. While we feel it would be a useful enhancement to automate credit card authorizations/approvals and then forward you the finished sale, the free storefront is simply a basic and safe medium to conduct simple transactions online without fear of security concerns or data loss.

Citizens who wish to use more enhanced methods for displaying their products and services online with full payment authorizations and automatic processes should contact us for information about plan upgrade options. Top

Auction
What is Auction?
Auction is the designated place in the Free Web Town Community for putting up your products for sale to the highest bidder.

How do I add a new lot (item to sell)?
You can add or delete your lot by clicking the "Add Lot" button on Auction Administration page.

What if I forgot in which category I placed my lot?
Click the "View All" button on the Auction Administration page and search within the alphabetical listing for your product. Top
