This is a map of Lafayette, LA circa 1950's (I think). I'm basing this estimate on the apparent age of the cars in the cover photo of St. John's. Click on a section of the map to get a larger version. There is also a larger version of the whole map (1.1 Meg) here.

This map is from before most of the street modifications were done, such as the Bertrand, Congress, Louisiana, Johnston, University, Pinhook, Mudd, Cameron, and Willow extensions. Also, this was before I-10 or Evangeline Thruway were put in. A few interesting things are that there was an airport off of North University, the south part of Kaliste Saloom was a gravel road called Comeaux Rd., and the part of Pinhook from Jefferson to the Thruway used to be called Lovers Lane. Being from pre-civil rights days, several of the schools and parks are referred to as "colored". You can also see the old Southern Pacific rail yard and terminal next to downtown, and the old Rivers Bend Country Club (now the neighborhood of Rivers Bend).
