Spudgun

Portal

A spud gun is a device that propels any object (not just potatos or spuds) but anything that can fit snuggly inside the barrel. There are two commenly used types of potato launchers (spud guns) the pnumatic type (air cannons) and the combustion type (combustion launchers).

The first and most powerful type are the pnumatic type. these consist of a pipe to contain compressed air, a valve to release it as fast as possible and a barrel for the air to escape, there-by propeling the projectile or spud or what-ever. The reason that the pnumatic launcher is seperior that the combustion launcher is that it yields a much higher pressure to propel the ammunition, and that it also functions perfectly every time with out having to worry about fuel-air mix, gumming of ignitor, or most importatenly spending money on fuel.

The second type, comustion launchers, use some type of highly combustable vapor or atomizd liquid to prop

el the projectile. This type of spudgun also has a barrel, but this time to contain the explosion that results when the gun is fired. When contained, the explosion produces a pressure that propels the disered ammunition out of the barrel at high velocity. A side effect of this is a satisfying muzzle flame and a loud boom!

There is also an elusive thisrd tye of spud gun that somehow combines a pnumatic cannon with a combustion launcher and is called a hybrid launcher. It consists of a pressurized combustion mix behind one or more burst disks. A hybrid launcher is supposedly much more powerful than an air cannon.
