Negau and related type helmets



One of the original "Negau" helmets
from the cache discovered at Negau,
Slovenia in 1811. 5th c. BC. Bears
an inscription in a north Etruscan
alphabet (the so-called "Harigast"
helmet). Kunsthistorisches Museum,
Vienna (AS Inv. No. VI 1660).

Two Negau-types in the Villa Giulia Museum, Rome.
Note that the helmet on the left has a transverse crest
while that on the right is front-to-back. The transverse
crest may be a sign of rank.
