Larne v Portadown - Thursday/Friday 7th/8th June

A weekend of fine weather saw Larne Firsts take to the field 4 days in a row as they attempted to catch up on some rearranged league matches and the team, who are sponsored by the Curran Court Hotel, emerged with 2 wins and a defeat.

The marathon began with a 2 night match against Portadown at Sandy Bay on Thursday night and a nail biting finale on the Friday night saw Larne scramble home by 2 wickets. Portadown batted first but were soon in trouble as Eddie Hunter made 2 early breakthroughs but recovered with a good 4th wicket partnership as Harris hit 26 and Edgar hit 63. However, when Harris was removed by Gareth Gaw and Edgar by Andy King the away team collapsed to 139 all out. King finished with 3 wickets and Gaw 4 in impressive bowling displays.

Larne started their chase shakily and lost 3 early wickets before Gareth Alexander and Chris Keenan steadied the ship and they appeared to be coasting to victory at 90-3. However, both fell in quick succession and this triggered a mini collapse as they slumped to 110-7. They were rescued by Andy King who batted without fear and saw the team home with a very impressive 29 not out.
