Saturday saw the visit of Drumaness to Sandy Bay and in another low scoring game Larne, who are sponsored by the Curran Court Hotel, emerged victorious by 28 runs.
Home skipper Trevor Dempsey elected to bat first but must have been wondering what was happening as the swing bowling of Gelston and Mills ripped out the Larne top 6 to leave them reeling on 37-6. It was Dempsey himself who somewhat rescued the innings as his 39 got Larne up to the meagre total of 108.
Drumaness began the chase well and were starting to look quite comfortable as they put 30 on for the 1st wicket before Eddie Hunter made the breakthrough and when Gareth Gaw had Mills caught by Dempsey from his first delivery Larne knew they had a great chance. Hunter bowled his 10 overs straight through and got 4 wickets for just 16 runs while Gaw also picked up 2 more before Jonathan King returned to pick up the last 2 wickets as Drumaness were dismissed for just 80. |
