Amateur Radio is a hobby enjoyed all over the world by millions of people of all ages and from all walks of life. It's a hobby of communication, a bit like CB (Citizens Band). Unlike CB though, you can't just buy a radio, put an antenna up, and start talking to people on it. You must complete a small, easy course, then pass an exam at the end. The exam is very easy though. I don't know of anyone who hasn't been able pass it! The courses are quite good fun and usually run over one or two days. Amateur radio operators communicate with one another in all sorts of ways. You can send & receive pictures (called SSTV), use Morse Code, use your computer keyboard and type your messages (RTTY, PSK etc).
