Slopesoaring
in Derbyshire
What is Slope Soaring? Slope soaring is when you fly a glider from a ridge or hill. Slope Soaring works well because your model gets pushed up by the winds. It only works whent the wind is facing your slope. The wind comes along the ground and comes to the ridge. It cannot go through it, it must go over. So the winds are pushed upwards which is what give the plane its lift. See the diagram below. Sometimes on a hot day you can get thermals which are large areas of warm air rising which can help your glider to stay in the air.
