The Whelihan block, on the left, was erected in 1897 from the ruins of the National Hotel destroyed by fire the year before;   The centre building was the Post Office constructed in 1907 on the lot left vacant by the destruction of the hotel stables;   The Barlett block, on the right, was constructed in 1868 for St Mary's first baker John Barlett from his profits from his contract feeding the work crews building the Grand Trunk Railway.   The buildings are opposite the St Marys' Opera House.
