ISLAND SANCTI-PETRI (EU143) - (HF + 6 METERS) - The next one 28 at the 30 of Julio will be active as ED7SPI from the Island of Sancti-Petri in Cádiz. The references of the activity will be: IOTA EU143, DIE S-002, UGLY D-2388, DCE CCA-007, DMHE MCA-195, DME-11031 San Fernando. They will also be tried to activate the different Headlands with references DIE: S-225 Big Headland of Sancti-Petri, S-235 Small Headland of Sancti-Petri and S-236 The Headlands of Sancti-Petri. This foreseen to have 4 active stations at least from 10 to 80 meters in SSB, CW and digital. We will also have an active station in 6 meters. EIGG ISLAND (EU008) - Members of the Scottish-Russian ARS and West of Scotland ARS are organizing IOTA DX-pedition to Isle of Eigg (IOTA: EU-008, IOSA: NH03, SCOTIA: DI19, WAB: NM48 Highland). The team is going to take part in the RSGB IOTA Contest on 29 - 30 JULY, 2006 using two call sign in two different contest groups - GM2Z (operator MM0DFV) is a CW station, and GM4A (operators GM0WRR, GM4TOQ, MM0GDL, GM7WED and MM3LKV) is a SSB station. Locator information can't be more precise at this point until we know where on the island we will be operating from. There is no arranged accomodation on Eigg. Nor is there mains electricity on the island. We are taking all our camping and portable equipment, such as tents, diesel generator, poles, sleeping bags and so on. We are leaving Airsaig on Friday 28th of July at 11 a.m. and arriving in Eigg at 12 p.m. There will be opportunities to explore the island on foot between setting up station on Friday and the start of the contest on Saturday. During this time we will be operating digital modes, especially PSK by using our special DX-pedition call sign MS0DGR. QSL-cards for all call signs should be sent via MM0DFV. An island of the Small Isles in the Inner Hebrides, Eigg lies over 7 miles (11 km) west of mainland Inverness-shire, Highland Council Area. It is separated from the island of Rum by the Sound of Rum and from the island of Muck by the Sound of Eigg. Its area is 3049 ha (7534 acres) and its highest point is the prominent conical peak of An Sgurr (393 metres/1198 feet) which is the largest residual mass of columnar pitchstone lava in the UK. The low-lying ground to the south overlies basalt, while the northern cliffs are of sandstone which erodes into curious shapes at the Camas Sgiotaig beach which is renowned for its 'singing' sands. In 1840 the fossilized remains of a 180-million-year-old Plesiosaur were discovered in shales found in the northeast corner of the island. The island's chief settlements are Kildonnan, Galmisdale, Cleadale and Laig on the Bay of Laig. The Macdonalds of Eigg sold the island in 1829 and successive absentee landowners held the island until 1997 when it was purchased by the community in the form of the Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust. The population of Eigg has fallen to its present level from a total of nearly 550 in the 1840s. At Kildonnan an ancient Celtic cross-slab stands near the ruins of a 14th century church which was built on the site of a monastery founded by St Donan in the 7th century. There are ferry links with the other Small Isles and the mainland from Galmisdale. Kenneth MacLeod, composer of songs such as The Road to the Isles was born on Eigg in 1872. FIRST DXPEDITION NEW DXCC: SWAINS ISLAND - Under the most recent DXCC Rule Change, Swains Island will count for DXCC. KH8SI will be on the air for at least 3 days on SSB and CW beginning after July 23. This first expedition to a new country will be limited because of the lack of transportation in American Samoa. 6 Operators will keep a station both on CW and SSB on open bands. The expected opening to Europe is SHORT and Europe WILL BE PRIORITY during that opening. Kan JA1BK/KH6BK is the team leader. Uti KS6FO, Paul F6EXV/WH7S, John K1ER, Tets AH7C and John K8YSE are the operators on this FIRST EXPEDITION. The ASARA, American Samoa Amateur Radio Assoc, president AH8LG represents Amateur Radio in Am Samoa and is pleased to help plan and conduct this operation from Swains Island. Look for KH8SI on SSB and CW. Listen on 17 to 160 meters (and SPOT US). This is a NEW DXCC Country so be considerate since everyone needs it. PLATFORM OF SOFTWARE DE LUSAC - During the last monthly meeting of Amsat Argentina, we had opportunity to see and to play the hardware of the LUSAC, satellite in development of AMSAT Argentina, together with the UTN and to be integrated in future space ships that the CONAE will rush. NEW DXCC SWAIN ISLAND - With the addition of Section II, Criteria Rule 1c) to the Political Entity criteria, certain former separation entities may now qualify as Political Entities. One such entity has been determined to be American Samoa. American Samoa is now a Political Entity for DXCC purposes. As a result of the reclassification of American Samoa, and upon the filing of a request and substantiating evidence, and with the concurrence of the DXAC and the Awards Committee, Swain's Island has been added to the DXCC List. Swain's Island entity number 337 qualifies as the first separation entity from American Samoa, now a Political Entity. The distance between American Samoa and Swain's Island has been determined to be in excess of 350 km as required by DXCC Rules Section II, Paragraph 2, Section b). QSOs made with Swain's Island on or after 0001Z, July 22, 2006 will count for DXCC credit.
