SOCORRO ISLAND - (MORE INFORMATION) - XF4DL is the call of a dxpedition to Socorro Island, Revillagigedo (Mexico), DXCC XF4, IOTA NA-030, planned for the second half of October 2006. The operation will be done by a team of six German and ten Mexican operators ( DF7TH, Joerg; DJ5IW, Gerd; DK2WV, Karl; DL1YFF, Hans-Juergen; DL3DXX, Dietmar; DL8LE, Juergen; XE1AY, Ismael; XE1FRF, Fabian; XE1FXF, Daniel; XE1FXM, Saul; XE1FXZ, Victor; XE1GRR,Rafael; XE1HBU, Parcival; XE1MMB, Margarito; XE1UN, Yuri; and XE2K,Hector). Emphasis will be on WARC - and Low Bands and on digital modes (RTTY and PSK63), but all other bands will be operated in CW and SSB as well. The team is also planning to operate EME and satellite. The plan is to have up to

five stations operating simultaneously with three from the Socorro Air Strip and two plus EME and satellite from the Navy Camp. The air strip operation site offers good propagation to nearly all directions in a range of about 250 degrees and should allow low power stations with moderate antennas to work the dxpedition despite the present low SSN. If local conditions allow beverages and K9AY-loops will be used as low band receiving antennas. One focus of the digital mode operation will be on PSK63 because of its excellent properties as low- and medium power high speed mode even in very congested channels but standard RTTY will be used as well. Look at the dxpedition's web site http://xf4dl.xedx.org  for further information on modes and frequencies and on digital modes in particular. Weather permitting Clarion Island (IOTA NA-115) will be activated at the end of the operation for several hours under the call XF4K. QSLs will be handled by N6AWD for North America and by DL9NDS for all others. Due to the high costs of this operation donations are very welcome. Please contact DL8LE or XE2K for details.

SPECIAL EVENT ED4FDV and ED4RCV - last weekend 23 and 24 of September were active as ED4FDV with reason of the Employer Parties of Taper of San Antonio, with reference DME-28167. Here we leave you some pictures of the activity that it was carried out by EA4ATA Alfonso, EA4TD Oscar, EA4ZR Mariano and EC4DX Javi. The log of this activity already has it available in the web: http://www.dxfun.com/logs.php  Yesterday, September 30, with reason of the day of the Associations in Valdemoro, the Radius Club Valdemoro and the Local Section URE Valdemoro put in the air the special station ED4RCV with DME-28161. Once again radioaficionados of the city gave to know our liking at hundred of neighbors that came closer to visit the different kiosks mounted by the associations of Valdemoro. You also takes advantage of the occasion to expose some old radio teams, have, QSLs, information about the radioafición, etc. In the pictures: EA4EC Carlos, EA4EN Miguel, EA4LL José Luis, EA4TD Oscar, EA4YK Ricardo, EA4EKU Luis, EB4GQT Esteban and EC4DX Javi. WEAK SOLAR CYCLE IN 2022 - according to information published in the web of the NASA: http://ciencia.nasa.gov/headlines/y2006/10may_longrange.htm  the solar cycle 25 whose maximum point will have place in 2022, it could be one of weak losmás in many centuries. The Great Belt of Transport of the Sun has diminished its speed until breaking the record of slowness, according to the investigation carried out by the solar physique of the NASA David Hathaway. "It is in the lowest part in the graphics", he affirms. "This has important repercussions for the future solar activity". The Great Belt of Transport is a massive circulating current of fire (it captures hot) inside the Sun. He has two branches, north and south, each one of those which uses 40 years in completing a cycle. The investigators believe that the turn of the Belt controls the cycle of the sunspots, and that it is the reason for which this deceleration is important. "Usually, the Belt of Transport moves to a speed of a meter per second", Hathaway affirms. "It has been this way from final of the XIX century". In the last years, however, there is you desacelerado to 0,75 m/s in the north and 0,35 m/s in the south. "We have never seen speeds so slow". In accordance with the theory and with the observation, the speed of the Belt predicts the intensity of the activity of the sunspots later 20 years. A slow Belt means less solar activity; a quick Belt implies a bigger activity. "The deceleration that we see now means that the Solar Cycle 25 whose pick (height) he will take place around the year 2022, it could be one of the weakest in centuries", Hathaway affirms. The prediction of Hathaway should not made a mistake with another recent prediction. A team led by the physical Mausumi Dikpata of NCAR has predicted that the cycle 24, with pick in 2011 or 2012, it will be intense. Hathaway agrees: "The cycle 24 will be strong. The cycle 25 will be weak. Both predictions are based on the behavior observed in the Belt of Transport."

Are you itching to try out a new audio interface? There's no better way than a RTTY contest!

North American RTTY Sprint -- sponsored by the NCJ, National Contest Journal, 0000Z-0400 Z Oct 15. Frequencies 80-20 meters. North American stations work everyone; others work NA stations only. Exchange both call signs, serial number, name, and S/P/C. The same station can be worked multiple times provided 3 contacts separate the contact in both logs, regardless of band. QSY rule: Stations calling CQ, QRZ, etc, may only work one station in response to that call; they must then move at least 1 kHz before working another station or 5 kHz before soliciting another call. Once you are required to QSY, you may not make a new QSO on the previous frequency until you have made a contact at least 1 or 5 kHz (as required) away. For more information:
